Mandibular Devices for Snoring
A mandibular advancement device looks much like a mouth guard. Worn at night, it holds your lower jaw and tongue further forward so they don’t block your airway.
These devices are most effective when snoring comes from the tongue or a slightly recessed jaw. When fitted correctly, they can also help mild to moderate sleep apnoea.
How the device is fitted
The device fits over both sets of teeth and is held together with rigid elastic fittings that encourage your lower jaw to sit further forward than normal. It is not very invasive and, when fitted correctly, should cause no discomfort. You can still breathe through your mouth, although it may take a while to get used to having something in your mouth while you sleep.
People who can’t cope with a CPAP machine often find a mandibular advancement device a good alternative.
Specialist fitting
Your device should be fitted by a dentist or specialist, so it fits properly and is comfortable to sleep in. Our specialists will arrange your treatment with a suitable dentist or specialist.
